Welcome to the Chesterfield Canal
Discover the tranquil beauty of the Chesterfield Canal on one of our luxurious
modern narrowboats.
Starting from our base at West Stockwith Canal Basin near Gainsborough, meander
through peaceful rolling countryside with unspoiled villages and small market
towns to explore on the way.
The boating is easy at first with well-spaced locks which introduce you gently
to the pleasures of a canal boat holiday.
After Retford the countryside is more undulating and the charming narrow locks,
dating from 1777, are frequently met.
The canal, recently restored beyond Shireoaks Basin up to Kiverton Park,
requires a cruising time of around 60 hours with the return trip of 70 miles
passing through 69 locks.
Beyond Shireoaks, a stroll along the towpath to view the picturesque upper
reaches of the canal and the current lock restorations is recommended for those
interested in canal heritage.
Leisurely trace your way back to West Stockwith revisiting some (if not all!) of
the twenty or so hostelries along the way to complete your holiday!
